Very wet period.. we had the delightful honour of hosting Christine from Vienna -who
came to Australia to visit her 'birthright' (as she was born in Sydney!). She is a microbiologist - so we devised a project examining the fungistatic properties of the fluids secreted by cluster figs after pollination. Here's Christine preparing petri dishes with various agar formulations.
However - February got WET - the weekend of Feb 9-10 we had 270 mm rain! Under those circumstances, nobody goes anywhere...
but the refrigeration unit on lab 1 failed (again) - so it was back to the drawing board - and refrigeration unit # 5 was hastily constructed -and that has worked a treat ever since -the big issue was that the engineer-designed system used a condenser design that was totally wrong and inappropriate -and no wonder things hadn't worked well. This condenser (salvaged from a scrap bin) -has been perfect. The refrigerant used is hydrocarbon -Hychill Minus 30 -basically iso-propane. No global warming impact whatsoever.
