How to Help

There is much you can do to help save flying foxes in the MBGAlthough the MBG has ceased culling the flying foxes in the gardens, we are sad to say that the "Imagine Melbourne Without the Royal Botanic Gardens", and other bat-hate signs are still on display. These signs are positively poisonous and provide no information or insight about the bats - only vilification. The signs are designed to elicit feelings of hatred towards the bats and gauging by comments overheard in Fern Gully, they are largely successful.

In addition to removing the signs, we believe the flyer "Living with Bats", the article Why Culling Won't Work by Les Hall, Greg Richards and Nicki Markus, and some positive images of the bats should be made to be freely available to the public.

Please lobby the RBG. You can call Philip Moors, the Director of the MBG on (03) 92522357, or fax him on (03) 9252 2350. Alternatively, you can email him on rbg@rbgmelb.org.au and PMOORS@rbgmelb.org.au
